If you receive a NSReceiverEvaluationScriptError: 4 (1) error when starting up Mac HelpMate version 1.0 or version 1.1, we've found it to be caused by having Amendment.app (an input manager and prefpane) installed. Amendment is a shareware spellchecker, but apparently it does something in the background that doesn't play nice with Mac HelpMate. If you rely heavily on Amemdment, our advice is to create a separate user account in which to run Mac HelpMate, because you can install Amendment for "all users" or a single user. So, you can run Amendment as one user and Mac HelpMate as another. We've contacted the developers of Amendment to find a way to resolve this reproducible conflict, although we have only run across it once in the field.
